President's Column

I would like to thank all of our longstanding CIB members.  Who without their support throughout the years, our organization would not be what it is today.  I would also like to thank our new members who have joined our organization over the past year and look forward to continued growth in the upcoming year.

A special thank you to the Board for all of their hard work in helping me through my first year as President

I would be remiss if I didn't recognize a dear friend and icon in the Insurance Industry, David Isenberg.  Davis is retiring this year after serving as D.C. White Agency's President and Chief Operating Officer for over 30 years.  David's contributions to the insurance industry are numerous.

CIB continues to be your voice in Albany.  Although our Article 78 challenge in the NYS Supreme Court in Albany to Insurance Regulation 194-Producer Compensation Transparency was decided against the producer organizations in November 2010, CIB agreed to join in an appeal of this egregious trial court holding to the Third Department of the Appellate Division of the NYS Supreme Court. The appeal was perfected, timely filed and is currently pending before the appeals court in Albany.

I ask all of you to continue to come to our meetings and events to show your support.  Get involved by bringing new members to join our growing professional network of insurance producers and carriers.

Thank you,

 Michael P. Demetriou

A message from our immediate Past President, Anthony Aquilino;

 As many of you may have heard, the Insurance Department and the Banking Department are merging. The present superintendent, James Wrynn will be the deputy superintendent. Mr. Wrynn has proven to be very effective as our Superintendent. He has been very understanding to broker’s needs.  Although regulation 194 was passed under his watch, he was not responsible for this from the onset.  Indications are that the Banking Department will head the entire department. The Council of Insurance Brokers will keep you informed of changes that may occur and how they may affect our business.

We remain focused on issues such as the standardizing of windstorm deductible triggers which will benefit our clients. We also have reserved our right to file an appeal to Regulation 194.

We need your feedback on how the disclosure requirement is affecting your business.  Please provide us with your comments by email to Lynn Fischler at LFischler@taifp.com.

The Council of Insurance Brokers of Greater New York is your voice in Albany and at the Insurance Department and I thank you for your continued support.
